With the NBA All-Star Game coming up in two weeks, I thought it would be fun to make up a Santa Cruz County all-star game. We’ll have one team representing North County and the other from South County.
The North draws from Santa Cruz, Harbor, SLV, Scotts Valley and Soquel. The South draws from Aptos, Watsonville, Pajaro Valley, St. Francis and MVC.
Here are my picks for the boys teams:
NORTH COUNTY
Starters
Guard: Felipe Mendez, Soquel
Guard: Evan Fletscher, Scotts Valley
Forward: Daniel Cross, Soquel
Forward: Justin Hightower, Santa Cruz
Center: Cameron Karjala, Harbor

SOUTH COUNTY
Starters
Guard: Robert Carrancho, Watsonville
Guard: Ryan Rocha, Aptos
Forward: Kraig Mitchell, Watsonville
Forward: Zach Scurich, St. Francis
Center: Daniel Johnston, Aptos
Reserves
Justin Contreras, Pajaro Valley
Dominic Delfino, Watsonville
Nick Ingram, Aptos
Whom am I leaving out. I’ll make up a girls team early next week.

If North County needs a game-winner, make sure to either have Gruber in there, or pick up Witzig from Scotts Valley. They don’t have a ton of wins, but he’s won a couple of games for them with game-ending shots. However, he is a very inconsistent jump shooter, so you can’t always count on his scoring.

This would be a great game. The South team would put up points in bunches thanks to the brilliant shooting of Rocha, Carrancho and the overall game of K-Mitch. The North has the clear size advantage with Cameron “Not in My House” Karjala, Andrew “I’m Long” Mosgrove and Dan “Just Give Me the MVP Already” Cross.
I would give the slightest of slight edges to the North because of their superior bench. Beevers can hit from anywhere in the gym and Gruber is that battle-tested veteran PG, a great backup to the talented and flashy Mendez.

really when is the game? these teams are both very well rounded but i would have to give North County the advantage because they have the very well rounded evan fletcher who can score from anywhere on the court. Also North county has a reserves that will out do the Souths
