After two straight weekends of the sky dumping rain, the Interscholastic Surfing Federation’s local high school surfing teams finally got a chance to make up their cancelled first meet of the season Sunday. The meet, originally scheduled for the Hook back in October, took place at Pleasure Point.
Harbor High took full advantage of the beautiful weather and combo of WNW and SW swell on tap at the Point, defeating Santa Cruz High 65-37 in the first team competition of the day. Santa Cruz earned narrow victories in the boys shortboard and bodyboard divisions, but Harbor took advantage of their superior numbers in the girls short and longboard divisions and also won the boys longboard division.

Cheyne Pearson & Kai Medeiros led Harbor, taking first place among all competitors Sunday in the shortboard and longboard divisions, respectively. With the win, the Pirates move to 3-0 and remain in sole possession of first place in the Santa Cruz Section.
In the second team match of the day, Half Moon Bay continued its strong performance, topping Aptos, 71-52. The Cougars moved to 2-1 in just their first year competing in the ISF.
Meanwhile, Scotts Valley also remained undefeated (2-0) after winnng by default (71-0) when the inland squad from Menlo Atherton failed to show up for the contest. Pat Shaughnessy and Kyle Alreck have had stellar ISF seasons thus far for the Falcons, with Alreck even earning a top 5 finish in both the shortboard and longboard events on Sunday.
The Falcons will be looking for their third straight victory when they face Soquel at the next ISF Santa Cruz Section contest on Saturday, March 29 Sunday, March 30 at the Hook. Aptos will face Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay will take on the team from Menlo. Harbor has a bye.
